Standards Development

East African Standards are developed in accordance with international procedures for the development of standards.
The work of developing East African Standards (EAS) is carried by the Sector Working Groups (SWGs). Sector Working Groups are composed of key stakeholders from the business community, consumers, academia, policy makers among others. Consultations with the wider public are carried out through the national standards bodies of the Partner States. Draft standards for comments can be accessed on this website.

The Sector Working Groups (SWGs) submit the finalised text to the Standards Technical Sub-Committee which considers their technical suitability and then recommends the drafts to the EASC for adoption and final ratification by the Council of Ministers in accordance with the Procedures for the Development of East African Standards.
