- Developing a programme for harmonizing national standards so as to develop East African Standards
- Promoting the principle of reference to standards in their national legislation so as to facilitate the harmonization of their technical regulations
- Promoting the principle of reference to standards in their national legislation so as to facilitate the harmonization of their technical regulations
- Promoting the application of uniform rules and procedures for the formulation of national standards;
- Adopting suitable regional or international standards as East African Standards (EAS) for products traded, manufactured or packaged within the Community
Harmonization of standards is an essential requirement towards greater economic integration in the Community. Harmonization of standards and technical regulations will:
- Eliminate Technical Barriers to trade (TBTs) and encourage a freer flow of goods and services within the Community;
- Boost trade among Partner States;
- Protect the health and safety of the consumers, including environment.
The Committee executes its mandate through Technical Sub-Committees namely:
- Standards
- Quality Assurance & Accreditation
- Metrology
- Testing.
